Day 1 in Thailand

Oct 25, 2017

I’m awful at writing and remembering to take pictures, but I’ll try my best.

After 3 flights and 30 hours of total travel time, we arrived in Thailand. The travel was long, but overall not bad. I would probably not book another 15 hour flight in economy. I am getting over being sick, and Lauren started getting sick on layover in China. We essentially slept through yesterday, so today was our first real day here.

Here are a few things that didn’t make the image gallery below:

  • Tuk tuks – Less frightening than you would expect, and very fun.
  • Toilets – You can’t flush toilet paper but they have a handy bidet sprayer next to the toilet, which is essentially a kitchen sink sprayer with a more targeted cone of fire.
  • The date – I kept Googling things and seeing the dates tagged 2558, 2560, etc. Thailand is based on the Buddhist Era, which is 543 years ahead of the Christian Era, so 2017 is actually 2560 here. We are truly living in the future, folks.
  • Cell phones – Our 799 baht ($24) unlimited 4G plan is far better than the Sprint plan I pay for the in the US. From what I’ve read there is coverage everywhere in Thailand, including the islands and remote jungles.
